MELAKA: Three teenage girls were among 11 people arrested by Melaka police for their suspected involvement in scams.

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah said all the suspects were arrested during a raid on a house in Taman Cheng Perdana here on Thursday (June 1).

"The 25-year-old suspected mastermind of the syndicate rented the house for RM4,000 a month to accommodate (his team).

"They have been active for the past month, offering non-existent loans to local victims," he said on Friday (June 2).

DCP Zainol said the suspects are aged between 18 and 25 and hailed from Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan and Perak.

He said police conducted the raid after a man lodged a report at Batang Tiga here on Thursday (June 1) that he was robbed and assaulted by a group of teenagers.

"The raid on the house was conducted at 10.40pm and 31 mobile phones as well as other items were confiscated," he said.

DCP Zainol said four of the suspects had criminal records for cheating-related offences in Jempol, Negri Sembilan.

He added that all the suspects have been remanded to assist investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

DCP Zainol said that his men were now tracking the remaining members of the syndicate.
