Body of man who drowned while trying to save two young girls recovered


SEPANG: The body of the man who was swept away in an attempt to rescue two young girls who were drowning while swimming in a river here has been recovered.

Sepang OCPD Asst Comm Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the body of Muhammad Faizal Mahasan, 29, was recovered at about 9.30am on Monday (June 5) near Avani Sepang Goldcoast.

"The body was brought to shore at about 9.50am and was sent to Hospital Serdang for a post-mortem," he said when contacted on Monday (June 5).

It was reported that the two siblings drowned while swimming in Sungai Sepang Kechil here.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail had said the incident occurred at 2.34pm on Sunday (June 4).

"We received a distress call and dispatched a fire engine and six personnel to the scene.

"The two sisters, aged seven and nine, were swimming there when they started to drown.

"A man attempted to rescue them and managed to pull the nine-year-old girl out before going back in for the younger girl," he said.

He said the man disappeared while trying to save the younger girl.

"The nine-year-old girl died at the scene while her younger sister's body was found some 50m away.
