Driver who rammed into six motorcyclists on NKVE out on bail


PETALING JAYA: The car driver who was intoxicated when he hit six motorcyclists on the North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) on Sunday (June 4) has been released on police bail.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the 26-year-old male suspect is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

"We released him on police bail today as he injured his shoulder due to the accident and is receiving treatment," he said when contacted on Monday (June 5).

It was reported that three motorcyclists were killed and three others seriously injured after a driver, who was intoxicated, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into them.

ACP Fakhrudin said that the motorcyclists were sheltering from the rain underneath a flyover at KM19.6 of the NKVE when the incident occurred at 5.59am on Sunday.

He added that the male driver of the car was detained for investigations under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 as his blood alcohol level was beyond the permitted limit.

"During the incident, he was driving to Cyberjaya from Kuala Lumpur. We urge those who saw the incident or were at the scene to contact Traffic investigating officer Insp R. Navalan at 014-253 6820," he said.
