Kulai police hunting trio who posed as cops seen in car chase viral video

KULAI: Police are hunting for three men seen in a viral video showing a car chase along the North-South Expressway near here.

Acting Kulai OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said a report was lodged by a policeman at 1.52pm on Monday (June 5) over the video.

"The video was uploaded by a Facebook user who claimed he was chased by men posing as police while heading from Singapore to Genting Highlands.

"Investigations revealed that the incident occurred at KM41.5 of the North-South Expressway heading north, near the Sedenak toll plaza," he said in a statement here on Monday (June 5).

He said the suspects tried to stop the victim and were in a car that was using a flashing blue light, similar to what the police use.

"However, the victim has not lodged any police report on the matter.

"The police are on the lookout for the owner of the vehicle seen in the video," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a civil servant.

"Those with information regarding the case are urged to come call the Kulai district police headquarters hotline at 07-663 7222," he said.

The viral video shows three men wearing facemasks and vests speeding along a highway.

As the car draws up alongside the victim's vehicle, a man in the front passenger seat, who is also holding up the blue light, gestures to the victim to pull over.

The video has since been viewed more than one million times.
