Cops obtain new leads on fugitive robbers

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have discovered new clues leading to the arrest of two suspected robbers who are on the run after their accomplices were shot dead in Cheras here.

City police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said a special team has been formed to track down the suspects.

"We believe they escaped in a car, bearing a fake number plate," he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters on Friday (June 9).

It was reported that a police team, who was on their rounds in Taman Supreme were informed of suspicious activity in that area at 3.30am on Thursday (June 8).

In an act of self-defence, police opened fire and shot dead two foreigners.

Two other suspects managed to flee in a car.

Comm Shuhaily said police recovered some tools believed to be used for break-ins, including a machete.

No guns were found on the dead suspects, however, police have not ruled out the possibility that the two fugitives are armed.
