Footballer hurt woman during tiff over relationship, say PJ cops

PETALING JAYA: An argument over their relationship is believed to be what sparked a local footballer to assault his girlfriend.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said investigations revealed that the 30-year-old suspect was arguing with his 37-year-old lover over their relationship.

"We cannot reveal what they were arguing about as it could affect our investigations but I can confirm that there was a misunderstanding.

"The woman suffered injuries to her forehead and other parts of her body," he told reporters on Friday (June 9).

ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said the suspect has been cooperative with police during the probe.

It was reported that a local footballer was arrested for assaulting his lover at a hotel here.

The victim posted a clip on Instagram showing bruises on her arms and finger and said that she was traumatised.

In the post, the woman said the suspect had promised to be loyal to her until they were old.

"Sometimes, women can be fooled by the one she loves and suffer in silence," she posted.

ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin was quoted as saying that police received a report from the woman at around 6am on Wednesday (June 7).

During the argument, the man hurt her and damaged her mobile phone.
