PJ cops bust drug ring that used ehailing services for deliveries

PETALING JAYA: Police have seized over RM12,000 worth of ganja and arrested a taxi driver and another suspect.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said its Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) detained the first suspect, 41, who was driving a taxi around Kelana Jaya at 10.10pm on Tuesday (June 6).

"We inspected his vehicle and found a bag containing four compressed bricks of dried leaves suspected to be ganja, weighing around 4kg.

"A follow-up operation led police to arrest another suspect, a 29-year-old local man around Kota Damansara.

"The second suspect is believed to be the mastermind of a drug distribution ring," he told a press conference on Friday (June 9).

ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said investigations revealed that the two suspects brought in the drugs after receiving orders to resell them to other dealers.

"The syndicate used ehailing and other public services to deliver the drugs.

"The seized drugs are estimated to be worth RM12,455 and could supply over 4,000 users," he said, adding that both suspects have been active for between two and three months.

He said the taxi driver took charge of Kelana Jaya and Puchong areas while the mastermind handled Kepong, Selayang and Petaling Jaya.

"The taxi driver has a record of 11 crimes, six of which are drug-related. The other suspect has no previous record.

"They were remanded for seven days to assist investigations for drug distribution," he added.
