We are here for a greater rakyat agenda, says Amanah's Salahuddin at Umno meet

KUALA LUMPUR: The many parties in the unity government have gathered at the Umno general assembly for a greater rakyat-centric agenda, says Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

He said it was time for everyone from all parties to strengthen bonds for the benefit of the rakyat.

"The speech by Umno president (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) has stated the commitment of the party towards the unity government.

"It is time for us to fortify the relationship and today I'm here with Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu as partners.

"The speech clearly expresses our direction and we should not question this anymore. We need to give full support to the unity government," he told reporters at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur on Friday (June 9).

Salahuddin said a greater people's agenda would become a more important discourse worth focussing on.

"This is the right time for us to focus on developing the country and address the rakyat's issues," the Pulai MP added.

Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal said Ahmad Zahid's speech touched on important issues faced by the rakyat.

The former Umno vice president, who was suspended before leaving the party in 2016, said he felt "normal" when attending the assembly as someone from a different party.

"I felt normal. I also came back here during the unity government convention," said the Semporna MP.

Asked about the coming state polls involving six states, he said the party had people on the ground to provide necessary assistance and support.

During the 15th General Election, Warisan launched its election machinery in the Peninsular and fielded 26 candidates.
