Loke: We’ve moved so far along from being political adversaries

KUALA LUMPUR: The political conflict between parties under the unity government ended when they came together after GE15 last year to form the government, said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.

“There is no need for us to comment any more; as we said, we have formed the government for more than six months, so I think if we keep bringing up the old stories, it will never end.

“Most importantly, we move forward as we have various challenges in politics, national development and the economy ahead for us,” Loke said after attending the opening of the Umno general assembly at the World Trade Centre here yesterday.

Loke, who said it’s normal for political leaders to have differing views, also said it is time for former rival parties under the unity government to move on from being political adversaries.

“We should forget the past for the nation. We need to move on from being political rivals or enemies,” said Loke.

Loke also said the Cabinet has been functioning well, as meetings have been held every week for the past six months.

“So far, there have been no issues regarding the chemistry of parties in the unity government,” added Loke.

Loke also thanked Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for inviting all leaders of component parties in the unity government to attend the Umno general assembly.

“This is my first time, as well as (that of other) DAP leaders, to attend the Umno general assembly. Because we have politically cooperated since GE15, we welcome all invitations as a form of respect to the unity government,” added Loke.

On Thursday, Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Salleh called for DAP to apologise to Umno.

Dr Muhamad Akmal had said the apology should be issued to parties in the unity government before the state polls commence.
