Mother Mangalam, the 'Mother Teresa of Malaysia' has passed away

PETALING JAYA: Datin Paduka A. Mangalam,the "Mother Teresa of Malaysia", has passed away. She was 97.

Her cause of death has yet to be confirmed.

Known as Mother Mangalam, she was the life president of the Pure Life Society which was founded in 1949 and was a well-known figure in humanitarian endeavours.

Among others, she was a recipient of the Merdeka Award in 2010 for education and community.

She was the Malaysia Inter-Religious Organisation vice-president and a member of the National Advisory Council on the Integration of Women in Development.
