Man killed, wife injured in Tangkak car-lorry crash

TANGKAK: A 43-year-old man was killed and his wife injured in an accident involving two vehicles at KM150 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) southbound here.

Tangkak Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Farizan Mokhtar said the department received a distress call about the incident at 9.13am on Sunday (June 11).

“The accident involved a lorry and a car, where the driver of the lorry was pinned to his seat, while the front passenger, a 30-year-old woman, was injured.

“The lorry driver was later pronounced dead at the location by a medical team, while the woman was brought to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he said when contacted.

Initial investigations revealed that the car driver had tried to cut off another vehicle, but hit the lorry from behind, causing it to turn and crash into the ravine on the left side of the road, he said.

The car driver was unharmed, he added.

Acting Tangkak OCPD deputy Supt Idris Abdul Rahman said a police report was lodged and that investigations are ongoing.
