IPOH: The Pesta Budaya Nusantara@Ipoh will help to attract more visitors to Ipoh in line with the Visit Ipoh Year 2023 campaign, says the state executive councillor in charge of tourism.

Loh Sze Yee said Pesta Budaya Nusantara@Ipoh serves as an excellent platform for the promotion of culture and arts.

"I was given to understand that Ipoh City Council (MBI) is organising this event for the second time. Last year it was held on a smaller scale with participation limited to several art groups from within the country.

"But this time we have delegations from friendship cities overseas, namely Medan, Indonesia, and Nanning, China,” he said in his speech at the launch of Pesta Budaya Nusantara@Ipoh at Stadium Indera Mulia here on Saturday (June 10) night.

Also present were Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin and China’s consul-general in Penang, Zhou Youbin.

Loh said apart from presentations by MBI’s Kumpulan Gema Warisan Budaya, cultural troupes from Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Seremban City Council and Melaka Historical City Council will also be in action.

"And not forgetting our friends from Medan City, Indonesia and Nanning, China who are also here for this year’s Pesta Budaya Nusantara@Ipoh.

"Nanning and Medan have been Friendship Cities of Ipoh for some time, and on Friday, Ipoh and Nanning renewed their MoU on bilateral relations to further expand activities for our mutual benefit.

"Ties with Medan are growing, with the focus on exchange activities including culture, and health tourism,” he added.

A children’s themed playground, haunted house, petting zoo and classic car exhibition involving 20 vehicles are among the activities featured at the festival, which is open from 10 am to 11 pm daily until Monday (June 12). - Bernama
