Police arrest seven in connection with Taman Permata break-in


AMPANG: Police here have arrested five men and two women in connection with breaking into a house in Taman Permata.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the robbers had broken into a house in Taman Permata at about 3.45am on May 22.

"They had escaped with RM10,000 worth of valuables, including a laptop, a bag and two mobile phones," he said.

"The house owner noticed the robbers in the house and shouted at them, prompting them to flee the scene with the loot. We also discovered signs of forced entry at a door to the kitchen," added ACP Mohamad Farouk in a statement on Sunday (June 11).

He said that the investigation led to the seven being tracked down and arrested, adding that they are aged between 22 and 32.

ACP Mohamad Farouk added that the seven were arrested in Wangsa Maju, Sentul and Gombak on Friday (June 9).

"Four of the suspects have a prior criminal record which includes drug-related offences. Six of the suspects tested positive for drugs," he said.

He also said that mobile phones, laptops, an Allen key, a Toyota Alphard and two motorcycles which were reported stolen as well as two other motorcycles belonging to the suspects and a police uniform were seized.

"We will investigate further, including why the suspects have a police uniform in their possession. They have been remanded until Saturday (June 17)," he added.

ACP Mohamad Farouk said he was not ruling out the possibility that the gang was involved in other similar cases in the Klang Valley.

"We urge those with information on any criminal activity in Ampang Jaya to contact the police immediately," he said.
