Cops nab man in Johor for alleged kindergarten robbery

KULAI: A 31-year-old man was arrested to assist investigation into a break-in at a kindergarten on Jalan Kenari, Bandar Putra here.

Acting Kulai OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the suspect was arrested at 7.30pm on Sunday (June 11) in front of a sundry store on Jalan Utama at Felda Bukit Ramun.

“The incident occurred on Aug 16 last year when a teacher at the school noticed marks on a door handle and later found that a laptop and a projector were missing," he said.

Supt Yusof added that when the closed-circuit TV footage was checked, an unknown man was seen breaking into the kindergarten and stealing RM2,000 worth of items.

He added in a statement on Monday (June 12) that the stolen items were later recovered by the police, along with six mobile phones.

Supt Yusof then said that the suspect has since confessed to having been involved in the break-in cases in Bandar Putra since last year.

“We are now investigating his involvement in other cases in Kulai and will call up the victims to identify some of the items that have been reported missing," added Supt Yusof.

He said that a background check revealed that the suspect has six prior cases in his criminal record and is a wanted person under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for consuming drugs.

Supt Yusof added that the suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine.

He said that the suspect is currently under remand for seven days until June 18 to help with investigations under Section 457 of the Penal Code for breaking into a house to commit burglary.

If found guilty, the law provides for an imprisonment term that may extend to 14 years and a possible fine or whipping.
