MACC still investigating foreign worker scandal, says Azalina

KUALA LUMPUR: The investigation into the foreign worker employment scandal involving several of the Human Resources Minister’s senior officers is underway, says Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

The Minister in the Prime Minister Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) said this meant the MACC cannot reveal any details of the investigation.

“The matter is still being investigated and the MACC cannot reveal the details,” she said in a written Parliamentary reply to Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (BN-Ayer Hitam) on Monday (June 12).

Dr Wee had asked the Prime Minister to state the MACC’s findings on the foreign worker employment scandal linked to several officers attached to the Human Resources Minister.

The Ayer Hitam MP also asked about the impact of this issue on the government's commitment to fight corruption efficiently.

Earlier this year, the MACC arrested two aides to Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar in the probe.

In May, it was also reported that the contracts of five of Sivakumar’s officers - including the two aides - were terminated effective immediately, according to sources.

It is believed that the termination had to do with the recent arrests as well as their performance.

However, not all are linked to the MACC investigation, said the source.

The source said that the move is also believed to be an attempt to "clear the slate" after the recent arrests related to a graft probe.
