IPOH: Counterfeit shoes, brand stickers, and plastic bags worth RM87,979 have been destroyed by the Perak Domestic Trade, Cooperative, and Consumerism Department.
Its director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said the items were seized during an operation at a shopping mall on Jalan Sultan Abdul Jalil here on June 16, 2022.
“These included 2,845 pairs of shoes, 800 stickers, and plastic bags. We got the approval to dispose of the items after the case had been concluded by the court,” he said at the department's warehouse in Chemor on Tuesday (June 13).
"The owner of these fake items was fined RM30,000," he added.
Kamaluddin said seized goods worth RM1.369mil were disposed of this year.
“From January until May, we conducted several operations and there were 45 cases involving vehicles, clothing, fertiliser, and computers. There has been an increase this year compared to 2022, whereby we had 79 cases last year and had disposed of RM1,164mil worth of seized goods,” he added.
Separately, Kamalludin said the department has received 31 complaints on issues related to the supply of sugar.
“These complaints made by grocery shops and supermarkets include the lack of sugar supplies, sales-related matters, and hoarding.
“We have taken actions by issuing an RM200 compound notice for a price tag issue in Parit Buntar and are currently investigating a case where the stock book is not maintained in Kuala Kangsar,” he said, adding that the complaints were mostly lodged in Manjung, Taiping, and Gerik districts.
