KUALA LUMPUR: Offering better education opportunities in the medical field for the rural youth will help address the imbalance of healthcare and skilled workers in the country, the Health White Paper read.
The document made public on Tuesday (June 13), said there is a need to refine admission and scholarship programmes into medical schools for the rural youth.
“University development programmes, university admission policies and scholarships need to be fine-tuned to give more rural students access to higher education,” it said.
Referring to the education and training reform for the healthcare system, the Health White Paper said an education draft on the health profession will be developed to improve university admissions.
“It will also strengthen the accreditation and evaluation process at the university level as well as performing periodical checks on the curriculum to ensure it fits the current needs of the healthcare system.
The document also said there are plans to develop a standardised examination for professional licences to allow medical graduates from local and international institutions to practise in the country.
“The standards and processes of the test will be developed involving various health profession regulations to manage the registrations and issuances of the Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) and Continuing Personal Development (CPD),” it said.
