SIBU: A plantation van driver has been told to enter his defence by the High Court on charges of murdering two women and voluntarily causing hurt to another.
Judge Wong Siong Tung, in his ruling on Tuesday (June 13), said that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against the accused, Ahmad Robin, on the three charges.
The court fixed Aug 28 to 30 for hearing of the evidence from the accused as he has chosen to give evidence under oath from the witness box.
Ahmad, 31, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code on March 4, 2022, with the murders of two Indonesian women, Pandang Sarang and Muli Laha.
On the first charge, Ahmad allegedly murdered Pandang at around 11am at an oil palm plantation in Daro on Feb 11, 2022.
On the second charge, he allegedly murdered Muli at another oil palm plantation in Daro at around 11pm the same day.
The bodies of the two women were discovered at RC Dermaga, Sungai Samong in Daro on Feb 12 and Feb 14, respectively.
He was arrested at Jalan Sentral Daro at around 3.30pm on Feb 12, 2022.
As for the third charge under Section 326 of the Penal Code, he is said to have voluntarily caused hurt to another Indonesian woman, Tene, using a stone at about 11am on Feb 11, 2022, at a road in the same plantation.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mark Kenneth Netto prosecuted while the accused was defended by counsel Ben Lau.
