Perak Sultan launches GOF's Third Batallion

TAPAH: Perak’s Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah officially launched the Third Batallion of General Operations Force (GOF).

Sultan Nazrin, who was accompanied by Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, officiated the third Batallion of Senoi Praaq at Bidor here today (June 14).

During his opening speech, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said that the construction and upgrading phase of the base cost a total of RM322mil.

“The first phase, which started in February 2008 was completed in August 2011 costing about RM69mil by Syarikat Tabung Haji Teknologi.

“In the first phase, the infrastructure builds include recreation hall, target field, sewerage treatment plant and terrace houses,” he said, adding that the second phase started on Sept 15, 2008.

“The second was completed on May 16, 2012, and was equipped with various facilities such as Balai Tabik, Parade Ground and cafeteria.

“The second upgrades were conducted by Syarikat Galian Razak Sdn Bhd and BLT Company Sdn Bhd, costing RM253mil,” he said.

Also present during the event were Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and Perak Police Chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

During the launching ceremony, guests were presented with several performances such as Senoi Praaq War Legend act, and a poem entitled ’Warisan Pribumi Pertiwi’ by VAT 69 Commando.

First established in 1956, the Senoi Praaq are crack troops of the General Operations Force (GOF) and specialised in deep jungle reconnaissance work.

They are famed for their tracking and survival skills in the GOF.

Known for their tracking abilities in the jungle, Orang Asli police officers are highly valued by the Malaysian police.

In the Semai language, Senoi Praaq is translated as “War People” or “Those Who Fight”.
