PN T’ganu may name candidates next week

PETALING JAYA: Seat negotiations among Perikatan Nasional parties in Terengganu may be finalised next week, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

The Terengganu Mentri Besar said negotiations had been going well and were 95% complete.

“Depending on the final decision, most probably by next week,” said Ahmad Samsuri. He also confirmed that the Terengganu state assembly would be dissolved “before June 30”.

On June 12, Ahmad Samsuri told a press conference that negotiations involving all Terengganu state seats were nearly complete.

“Only one seat remains undecided,” Ahmad Samsuri said.

The Kelantan State Legislative Assembly will be dissolved on June 22, said Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob. He said the dissolution of the state assembly has received the consent of the Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V.

“The Sultan gave his consent for the state assembly to be dissolved on June 22,” he told a press conference after the state executive council meeting here yesterday.

He said the notice of dissolution of the state assembly would be sent to the Election Commission.

Three states under Pakatan Harapan, namely Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan, and three under Perikatan Nasional – Terengganu, Kedah and Kelantan did not dissolve their respective state assemblies by the time the 15th General Election (GE15) was held in November last year.

Leaders of the states, however, agreed to do so within the last two weeks of June to enable state elections to be held simultaneously in the six states.
