Hamzah raided by LHDN over alleged tax dodge


PETALING JAYA: The house of Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (pic) was said to have been raided by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) pertaining to allegations of unreported taxes.

A source said the raid was carried out at the Opposition leader’s home in the Damansara area here on Tuesday morning.

“Hamzah was at home during the raid. Files and documents related to bank accounts and ownership of assets were seized,” said the source yesterday.

Sources close to Hamzah alleged that the raid was a politically motivated act by the authorities, as the Larut MP had always filed his taxes.

“LDHN did not specify in detail the reason for the raid, on whether or not it was related to taxes of a company or some projects.

“Hamzah is still waiting for documents from the board,” added the sources.

Attempts to contact Hamzah and LHDN are ongoing as of press time.

On May 12, a police report was lodged by Hamzah’s private secretary Ahmad Ikhwan Fadhli to investigate parties who allegedly influenced government agencies to tarnish Hamzah’s reputation.

Hamzah had also denied that he was involved in a corruption case, in which a businessman had been implicated.
