PUTRAJAYA: The sales value at Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars in 2023 increased by 5.9% to RM2.5bil from RM2.4bil in 2022, according to the 2023 Ramadan and Aidilfitri Bazaar Statistics released by the Statistics Department (DOSM).
In a statement on Friday (June 16), DOSM said that in terms of performance by state, Selangor, Johor, and Kuala Lumpur contributed 50% of the total sales value this year.
According to the report, Selangor had the highest sales value for the bazaars, followed by Johor at RM411mil and Kuala Lumpur at RM284.2mil.
At the district level, Johor Bahru recorded the highest sales value with RM207.6mil, followed by Petaling with RM204.5mil and Klang with RM87.4mil.
On Ramadan bazaars, DOSM said that Selangor registered the highest sales value of RM451.4mil, followed by Johor at RM313.5mil and Kuala Lumpur at RM264.3mil.
Petaling recorded the highest sales value at the district level, at RM186mil, ahead of Johor Bahru at RM148.3mil and Ulu Langat at RM64.3mil.
As for the Aidilfitri bazaars, DOSM said Selangor came in first with RM112.7mil in sales, followed by Johor with RM97.5mil and Melaka with RM47.4mil.
Johor Baru had the highest sales value at district level with RM59.3mil, followed by Klang with RM53.6mil and Melaka Tengah with RM43.5mil.
Meanwhile, DOSM said that the number of workers increased by 30.3% to 203,667, up from 156,364 people last year.
Selangor recorded the highest number of workers at 6,105, followed by Johor at 5,258 and Kedah at 2,850.
DOSM said the findings were based on a survey conducted from March 23 to April 22, covering all bazaars registered with local authorities. – Bernama
