A TEACHER from Thailand celebrated her windfall lottery win of 24 million baht (RM3.19mil) by throwing a feast for the souls near a cemetery.

China Press reported that the 29-year-old from Chonburi province catered food for a 200-table banquet next to the Sam Tek Tai burial ground on Thursday.

Featuring an eight-course meal at 1,200 baht (RM160) per table, the dinner with no physical guests in sight offered a mix platter, fried rice, four dishes comprising fish maw, chicken, fried fish and tom yam soup, a snack and a dessert.

When the “dinner” was over, the food was then distributed to the poor and nearby villagers.

The unique celebration was said to be a norm at the Chonburi province, where residents often sought good luck from their deceased relatives before buying the lottery.

And when they hit the jackpot, they would organise a feast or an al-fresco movie night at the graveyard.

> Oriental Daily reported that five teenagers paid the price for their misbehaviour when they ended up getting arrested after they threw stones at passing vehicles on the North-South Expressway (NSE).

Aged 14 and 15, their act was uncovered when a brief video went viral, showing a lorry driver who was stunned when a stone and a tree branch hit his windscreen at KM253.3 on the NSE near Senawang while he was heading south on Monday.

He attempted to go after the culprits, who escaped into the trees along the highway.

The lorry driver subsequently lodged a police report.

Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Arifai Tarawe said five teenagers were nabbed between 5pm and 7pm on Wednesday from three areas in Senawang.
