A TEACHER from Thailand celebrated her windfall lottery win of 24 million baht (RM3.19mil) by throwing a feast for the souls near a cemetery.
China Press reported that the 29-year-old from Chonburi province catered food for a 200-table banquet next to the Sam Tek Tai burial ground on Thursday.
Featuring an eight-course meal at 1,200 baht (RM160) per table, the dinner with no physical guests in sight offered a mix platter, fried rice, four dishes comprising fish maw, chicken, fried fish and tom yam soup, a snack and a dessert.
When the “dinner” was over, the food was then distributed to the poor and nearby villagers.
The unique celebration was said to be a norm at the Chonburi province, where residents often sought good luck from their deceased relatives before buying the lottery.
And when they hit the jackpot, they would organise a feast or an al-fresco movie night at the graveyard.
