Rubbish collector knifed in dispute over pay

KUALA LUMPUR: A 39-year-old rubbish collector sustained knife wounds due to a fight over pay after attending an event held by his employer.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said in a statement on Monday (June 19) that the event happened on June 16.

"He went to Jalan Cahaya after the event with the rubbish truck and once there about five people approached the victim after he exited the truck. One of the suspects injured the victim with a knife, causing cuts to the left cheek and arm,” he said.

ACP Mohd Azam added that all suspects escaped after the attack and said that the victim was sent to the Ampang Hospital for treatment while police at the scene recovered the suspected knife used during the attack.

He said that a shoe and four blood splatters were also found by forensics police.

"On June 17 at 5.10pm, a police raid was conducted at a flat in Taman Impian Warisan in Hulu Langat. Five men, all foreigners aged between 23 and 27 years old, were arrested there,” said ACP Mohd Azam.

"Two of the men caught tested positive for methamphetamines and all have been remanded until June 21," he said.

Investigations showed that the attack stemmed from unhappiness due to money received from the rubbish collecting job.

The suspects all worked for the same employer as the victim.

"They were not satisfied that the money earned was not split evenly," he said.

Investigations are ongoing to trace the accomplices that had been at the scene of the crime.
