WITH fraud syndicates emerging like never before, scammers are using all kinds of tricks to deceive victims.

A recent report suggests that the latest modus operandi is to send victims fake arrest warrants or notices bearing the police logo. Is this report true?

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said in a statement that they had received two police reports about scammers using this specific modus operandi.

The reports stated that the victims had been led to believe the documents were legit as it bore the police logo and involved state police chiefs.

One victim was a restaurant trader who was tricked into believing that an arrest warrant had been issued against him, while the other was a university lecturer who suffered the loss of RM98,000.

Mohd Yusri said the modus operandi includes impersonating authorities, financial institutions, courts, insurance companies and delivery companies.
