Cops nab 22 foreign GROs in raids on two Klang entertainment outlets

KUALA LUMPUR: Some 22 foreign women, who worked as guest relation officers (GROs), were among 27 individuals detained following raids at two entertainment outlets in Klang.

Sources said among those detained also included five caretakers of the premises in the raids conducted at about 11pm last Saturday (June 17) by Bukit Aman CID.

"Of the 22 GROs detained, 18 were from Vietnam, two Cambodian, one Thai and one Filipino.

"The GROs were aged between 27 and 50 years old," sources said.

The GROs would earn tips of between RM50 and RM200 for providing personal service to customers, sources said.

"They also earn a commission of RM30 for every beer bucket sold to customers.

"Investigations showed that the GROs did not offer sex services to the customers," sources said.

Both outlets have been active since January, sources said.

"They only cater to regular customers, who go in through secret doors.

"The outlets' management also hired lookouts to spot authorities.

"When the raids were conducted, customers were drunk and did not give cooperation. However, the situation was under control," sources said.

When contacted, Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay confirmed the arrests.
