Ipoh cops arrest two robbers within one hour of committing crime

IPOH: Police have arrested two men who are believed to have robbed a 33-year-old woman near the Silibin Industrial Area here.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the two individuals are aged 28 and 32 and were arrested at Jalan Kuala Kangsar, about 10km away from the location of the crime on Tuesday (June 20) morning.

ACP Yahaya said the robbery occurred at about 8.10am, and both suspects were arrested at about 9am.

"The victim had her handbag, mobile phone, automated teller machine card, money and personal documents stolen. Her losses amount to about RM650," he said in a press statement on Tuesday.

ACP Yahaya said the police officers on duty received information about the incident before the report was lodged.

"The police seized several items during the arrest, including a motorcycle that was used during the robbery and the victim's belongings.

"With their arrests, the police believe they have solved the case in Silibin," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.

"Initial investigations also found that both were responsible for at least seven robberies in the city.

"This included a robbery on a 73-year-old woman from Canada at Ipoh Garden on June 15, who also got injured," he added.

ACP Yahaya said the remand order for both men will be obtained on Wednesday (June 21) to facilitate the investigation.

"The police would like to thank the public for channelling information to us, which ensured that we managed to solve the case less than an hour after the robbery.

"The police district operations centre can always be contacted 24 hours daily at 05-254 2222," he added.
