King receives IGP and Deputy IGP candidates list

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has presented the names of candidates for the posts of Inspector-General of Police and Deputy Inspector-General to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The Home Minister was granted an audience with Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara here that lasted for more than an hour from 2.45pm yesterday.

It is learnt that the name presented for IGP was Tan Sri Razarudin Husain – the current Deputy IGP – while four names were proposed for the Deputy IGP post.

The latter included Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Comm Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali and Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Kamaruddin Md Din.

The fourth name could not be ascertained.

When contacted, Razarudin said he was unaware of the matter.

“So far, I do not have any information on the names of candidates for the IGP and Deputy IGP posts. I leave the matter fully to the Home Minister and the government’s leadership,” he said.

Razarudin, who was to go on mandatory retirement in March, is on a two-year contract extension.

The Star reported on Sunday that Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani would step down as IGP to make way for new leadership in the police force.

The next day, he confirmed that he would be opting to retire in the first week of July – months before his two-year contract is up in October.

He was appointed the 13th IGP in 2021, succeeding Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that a handover-of-duties and farewell ceremony planned for Acryl Sani this Friday has been postponed to the first week of July.
