Suspects who beat up convenience store worker arrested

KAJANG: Two suspects have been detained in connection with a case where a convenience store worker was beaten up here.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said the two men were detained at 11.30am and 12.30pm, respectively, on Wednesday (June 21), in Seremban and Sepang.

"We also seized two mobile phones. Both men have criminal records.

"We are investigating under Section 394 of the Penal Code (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery)," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 21).

It was reported that the police were seeking two suspects after a video showed one of them beating up a convenience store worker.

ACP Mohd Zaid had said that a report of the attack was made at 7.43am on Tuesday.

"The complainant was working at the convenience store outlet in Semenyih when two men went in around 5am.

"One of the two suspects tried to take three umbrellas without paying.

"The victim reprimanded the suspect, which led to an argument.

"He left but returned later and punched the victim in the face," he said.

A video of the incident was posted on social media on Tuesday (June 20).

The one-and-a-half minute video shows a man in a green shirt attacking the worker. He then takes photos of the injured victim lying on the ground.

A second suspect is also seen talking to the injured worker and arguing with the victim's colleague.

One of the suspects also takes a selfie with the victim who is bleeding from the nose. The photo also went viral.
