Elderly man dies after being hit by jeep while crossing road in KK


KOTA KINABALU: A 69-year-old man succumbed to serious injuries on Thursday (June 22) after he was hit by a jeep in an accident in Tawau few days earlier.

The victim was crossing the road at Jalan Chong Thien Vun there on Sunday (June 18) around 3.30pm when the incident occurred.

Acting OCPD Supt Champin Piuh in a statement said the victim was admitted to the intensive care unit of Tawau district hospital after the accident and was pronounced dead at 9.40am on Thursday.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act 1987 (causing death by reckless or dangerous driving),” he added.

The jeep driver, a 86-year-old man, did not sustain any injuries during the accident.

Police investigations found that prior to the incident, the jeep driver was coming from Jalan Apas and heading home towards Jalan Sin On.

Upon arriving near the traffic light at Jalan Chong Thien Vun, the victim who was a pedestrian was crossing the road however the jeep driver was not able to avoid him in time and hit him.
