KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu City Hall has appointed a contractor to handle the waste collection at housing and commercial areas in Inanam, Manggatal and Telipok-Sepanggar zones.
In a statement on Thursday (June 22), City Hall director-general Junainah Abbie said the company, EC Green Cycle Sdn Bhd, has started taking over the services in phases since Wednesday (June 21) and will be fully operating them from Oct 1.
However, the collection of garbage in villages under these zones is still being conducted by City Hall.
“This contract service is meant to improve the quality of collection service of solid waste and at the same time overcome the critical issue involving garbage disposal, while gearing towards City Hall’s mission to turn Kota Kinabalu into a clean, green and liveable city.
“The taking over of the zones involved will be done in phases based on the compactor lorries the contractor company has readied for operation.
“In total, 360 areas will be taken over by the company, namely 108 housing areas and 253 commercial areas, including apartments and condominiums,” she said in the statement.
The collection schedule would be thrice weekly from 6am to 2pm for housing areas, and once a day from 4pm to midnight for commercial areas.
“City Hall would like to remind civilians to responsibly handle their waste using the 120-litre garbage bin with lid and ensure it is only domestic waste.
“Residents in the zones concerned can contact the EC Green Cycle contractor company through WhatsApp at its hotline 019-892 5441 or contact the City Hall solid waste management department at 017-827 2217 to enquire about services,” she added.
