Lorry attendant killed, driver injured in Ipoh accident

IPOH: A 60-year-old lorry attendant was killed when the vehicle he was in crashed into a stalled trailer at KM8 of the Teluk Intan-Kampung Gajah road.

In the incident that occurred at about 2.30am on Thursday (June 22), the 30-year-old lorry driver sustained light head injuries.

Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Adnan Basri said the initial investigation found that the trailer had some technical issues and had stopped at the side of the road.

“The lorry suddenly crashed into the right side corner of the back of the trailer. The victim died at the scene as he was pinned inside the lorry. His body has been brought to the Teluk Intan Hospital for postmortem,” he added.

ACP Ahmad Adnan said that both the trailer's driver and his assistant escaped unhurt.

He added that the lorry has been sent to Puspakom for inspection, and the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 to ascertain the actual cause of the accident.

“Those with information on the accident are urged to come forward, and contact the Investigation Officer Insp Muhammad Hanif Ghazali at 013-8211978,” said ACP Ahmad Adnan.

He added that motorists must always be careful on the road and follow all the rules and regulations and that their vehicle must be in a good condition.

“If the vehicle breaks down and cannot move, ensure it is parked at a safe place such as the emergency lane by the side of the road,” said ACP Adnan.

“When the vehicle is parked at a safe place, always ensure that the reflective warning signs are placed at least 45m at the back of the stalled vehicle,” he added.
