GOPENG: Discussions on expanding the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) festival across the nation will be held soon, says Chan Foong Hin.
The Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister said the discussions will also include the related agencies.
“The festival highlights local agricultural products and food to the public. Since it was held in 2017, the festival has garnered nearly RM17mil of sales from over 1,500 entrepreneurs,” said Chan.
“We will look into the reports given by Fama to see the possibility of adding more venues for the festival,” he added when speaking to reporters after launching the Fama festival at RTC Perak here on Thursday (June 22).
The first Fama festival, an event featuring fruits, flowers and food, was held this year in Sarawak in February followed by other states like Perak, Johor, Penang and Terengganu.
In Perak, the festival would be held for five days from June 22 until 26.
Chan said the ministry is targeting RM5mil of sales from 300 entrepreneurs.
“In Perak, since it is such a big state and the support has been overwhelming, we are targeting RM2mil sales from 103 entrepreneurs.
“Besides agricultural products, there are also traditional and cultural foods available at the festival such as Rendang Tok, Laksa Sarang, and Batu Kurau’s durian,” he said.
