PETALING JAYA: A campaign which allows Malaysians to exchange their amassed piles of courier packaging from online shopping with prizes is winning accolades for Pos Malaysia Bhd.
A post on Facebook group, Zero Waste Malaysia, stated “kudos and thank you” to Pos Malaysia for coming up with the recycling campaign in conjunction with World Environment Day.
A participant, who wanted to be known as Lim, drove from Petaling Jaya to Shah Alam to exchange her used packaging and was pleased to get a notepad and black tote bag.
“I wouldn’t mind seeing more programmes to recycle used packaging as I always have more lying around,” she said.
Yee Lin, one of the commenters on the Facebook post, went to the post office in Johor Baru and managed to redeem two prizes for 30 used packaging items.
“This is a good initiative to recycle used packaging, otherwise it will be thrown away. I also liked the prizes I got.
“More programmes like this on a larger scale will be good.
“If post offices have an area where I can just drop off the used packaging, I will participate even without the prize incentive,” she said.
Jean Chook, another commenter who identified as part of the organising team, said the campaign was a pilot project to determine if it was a viable long-term project.
“The goal is to tap into the concept of reverse logistics in the country and be part of Malaysia’s circular economy drivers,” she said.
The used packaging collected will be sorted first.
Packaging that is still in good condition will be sent for reuse while the others will be given to local recycling vendors.
“Any other packaging that is not recyclable will be recorded for data and thrown away,” she added.
The campaign “Exchange your used courier packing for goodies” will last till June 30.
Bring at least 15 pieces of used courier packaging from any courier company to a participating post office.
Prizes exchanged will be different types of Pos Malaysia merchandise.
The participating post offices are nationwide. They include Kuala Lumpur General Post Office (GPO), Shah Alam GPO, Seremban GPO, Bandar Melaka GPO, Johor Baru GPO, Ipoh GPO, Alor Setar GPO, Kuantan GPO, Kuala Terengganu GPO, Kota Baru GPO, Kota Kinabalu GPO, Kuching Post Office and Pulau Pinang Post Office.
