JEMPOL: A jeweller lost more than RM1mil after his store was broken into in Bahau near here.
Jempol deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said the owner lodged a report after realising his store had been broken into around 9.40am on Thursday (June 22).
"The owner claimed that jewellery kept in a safe had been stolen.
"A police team investigating the break-in discovered that the intruders may have gained entry by cutting the window grille in the toilet," he said.
DSP Mohd Hafiz said the intruders also cut open an iron door to gain entry into a strong room where the safe was kept.
Police also found tools used to gain entry into the premises and to cut open the iron door.
"A CCTV recording at the premises showed several unidentified cap-wearing individuals who also wore face masks and gloves in the vicinity of the premises.
"We have started a probe and would like to appeal to those with information to come forward to assist in investigations," he said.
DSP Mohd Hafiz said the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment that may extend to 14 years and a possible fine or whipping.
