SEREMBAN: There won’t be a “poster boy” for Perikatan Nasional in the upcoming state polls in Negri Sembilan, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
The state Perikatan chief said the coalition decided to face the polls as a team.
"Also, we do not wish to pre-empt the Yang di-Pertuan Besar (of Negri Sembilan) as only the state Ruler can decide who commands the majority of support in the house," he added.
He also said Perikatan sees a great potential in capturing Negri Sembilan in the coming state polls despite the coalition not winning any of the eight parliamentary seats in the Nov 19 general election.
He said recent surveys by the coalition have shown a big swing in support, especially among the Malay voters towards the coalition.
"We are very serious as we see a great potential to take over (the state administration from Pakatan Harapan).
"We do respect our rivals but we will have to work harder than them to emerge victorious," he said, adding that state Perikatan leaders and grassroots were also motivated and convinced of doing well.
He said this to reporters when met after chairing a meeting with state Perikatan leaders at its state operations headquarters for the state polls.
Ahmad Faizal, who is also Bersatu deputy president, however refused to reveal how many seats each of the component party members will contest in the state polls.
There are 36 seats in the state assembly. Pakatan currently has 20 and Barisan Nasional the remaining 16.
"What is important is that we have no problems and have agreed on where we will be contesting.
"Leaders from Bersatu, PAS and Gerakan from all divisions were present today and we are so motivated to face the state polls," he said, adding that all three parties have agreed to work together in all constituencies.
He said revealing the number of seats each party would contest would only start debates at the grassroots level and this was unnecessary.
Ahmad Faizal said the state Perikatan has also forwarded the names of potential candidates to the party leadership.
A committee will vet these names to ensure they are eligible before a final decision is made.
