KUALA LUMPUR: A seven-year-old boy, who is allegedly abused, has been saved following a tip-off to the Welfare Department.
When met at a community policing event at Taman Bukit Cheras here on Saturday (June 24), City police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain confirmed the incident.
He said two nasi lemak traders, the victim’s mother and stepfather, were detained during a police raid at a terrace house in Taman Sri Rampai here.
“When the Welfare Department was informed of the incident and proceeded to rescue the child, we started our investigations.
“We took the two suspects in for further probe and we have obtained a remand order on them for five days starting today,” he said, adding the child was injured on the leg and cheek.
“I believe the injuries are due to caning,” Comm Mohd Shuhaily added.
As of now, investigators are still determining the scale and length of the alleged abuse.
“The marks are still fresh, maybe within a week, but we don’t know if there are other injuries or those that have healed,” he said adding that police needed to obtain more information from the victim himself with help from the Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division.
