PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional will not take part in Pakatan Harapan's Jelajah Mega Madani Selangor event in Shah Alam on Saturday (June 24).

Selangor Umno liaison secretary Datuk Abdul Mutalif Abdul Rahim said another event to officiate the collaboration of the election machinery of Barisan and Pakatan would be held at a later date.

"Selangor Barisan will not be involved. It is more of a Pakatan talk is held," he told The Star when contacted on Saturday (June 24).

Abdul Mutalif said the date for the joint launch would be announced after a discussion between Selangor Barisan chairman Datuk Megat Zulkarnain and Selangor Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Jelajah Mega Madani Selangor at at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam is to kick off the launch of the Selangor unity election machinery.

Selangor Umno deputy chairman Johan Aziz said Pakatan leaders did not hold discussions with state party leaders over the event.

"The invitation from Pakatan seemed to lack any importance and we were only invited via RSVP, so we informed them we are not attending.

"This event is their tour, so let them proceed first," he was quoted as saying by a news portal.

The Mega Madani Selangor tour poster features Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP secretary-general Antony Loke, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

It is understood from the Pakatan side that Anwar's attendance is yet to be confirmed for the event.
