Immigration busts Melaka prostitution ring, eight foreigners nabbed

MELAKA: Eight foreign women have been arrested for soliciting sex through social media platforms.

State Immigration Department director Anirwan Fauzee Mohd Aini said the illegal activity was uncovered when its officers raided several budget hotels in Taman Melaka Raya here between 9.45pm on Friday (June 23) and 2am on Saturday (June 24).

"The women charged a fee between RM230 and RM270 per client for providing sex services," he said on Saturday (June 24).

The suspects, aged between 27 and 33, are five Vietnamese and three Thai nationals.

Anirwan Fauzee said during the operation involving 74 of his men, the raiding team were forced to break open some of the room doors after the women refused to open them.

"Some of them tried to hide but we still managed to get them," he added.

Anirwan Fauzee said the suspects were being probed under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

He said five local men, who were at the hotels, were also summoned to assist in the investigation.

In another operation in Krubong here, Anirwan Fauzee said 11 foreign men had been detained for various offences including violation of working passes and overstayed.

He said the suspects nabbed were aged between 21 and 47.
