Kedah man arrested for allegedly insulting Royal in social media post


KUALA LUMPUR: A man has been arrested for allegedly uploading and sharing a post on social media which insulted the Royal institution.

Police Force secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the 28-year-old suspect was arrested in Alor Setar, Kedah on Friday for the post which was posted on the JDT Fans Club Facebook account.

"A mobile phone and SIM card which were allegedly used to upload the post have been seized.

"The Bukit Aman CID, Special Investigations Unit has opened investigations under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for bringing hate and insult to any member of the royal institution, criminal defamation and misuse of networking facilities respectively," she said in a statement on Saturday (June 24).

She added that the suspect had been remanded for three days to assist investigations.

"The public is advised to be responsible and wise social media users and not to use the platform to cause hatred toward race, religion and royalty which could threaten national harmony.

"Stern action without compromise will be taken against any person, who intentionally threatens public order and national security," he added.
