PETALING JAYA: Controversial figure Jocelyn Chia continues to rile up Malaysians after American comedian Chrissie Mayr, who was previously criticised for supporting Chia, claimed they would be holding an "apology tour" gig in Kuala Lumpur.
In an Instagram post, Mayr claimed that the gig would be held in Live House Kuala Lumpur on Aug 26.
"Thanks to all the attention Jocelyn Chia and I have gotten from Malaysians we're excited to announce we'll be touring together in Malaysia! Tickets available now!" read the post on Tuesday (June 20).
However, this could well be another gimmick from the duo to revel in their notoriety as the post did not provide any links or information about ticket sales.
A portal also reported that the venue, Live House Kuala Lumpur, was closed due to a lack of social media activity since 2019.
The Malaysian police have also said they have requested Interpol's help to track Chia.
Chia, who is based in New York, rose to infamy after a clip of her making jokes about the missing Flight MH370.
Despite becoming a lightning rod for criticism and public anger in Malaysia, she previously thanked Malaysians for putting her in the spotlight.
Mayr's post nonetheless drew flak from Internet users.
"We don't need your apology. Your apology I scheap. We have pride and we are proud to be Malaysian. Boooo," wrote Instagram user @lailalokman.
Another user @asnidaothman said, "Tolong ban, jgn bg msuk malaysia (Please ban and don't let her enter Malaysia)," while @stepdaddyberms said, "Really stretching that 15 minutes of fame, huh."
Chia, whose Instagram account has since been banned, also mocked Malaysian news reports about the alleged tour on Twitter.
"Why are they so upset? I thought they wanted an apology and now they can get an in-person apology!" she wrote on Friday.
Chia then continued her attempts to justify that she was not the only one making jokes about the missing flight, saying that "If I went 'too far' then so have hundreds if not thousands of comedians."
