SHAH ALAM: Despite the absence of Barisan Nasional, Selangor Pakatan Harapan flagged off its election machinery on Saturday (June 24) night, painting a vision of unity and saving the country.
However, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi were not at the event despite an itinerary posted on Pakatan's Facebook page stating that the leaders of both coalitions would be there.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, who was initially slated to attend the event, also did not feature.
However, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu was at the event along with other Pakatan leaders such as Selangor DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo, PKR youth chief Adam Adli, Wanita Pakatan chief Aiman Athirah Sabu and other state leaders, members of parliament as well as state assemblymen.
The machinery with the theme #ArusMerahKuning was launched by Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman and Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Despite the absence of Barisan, their partner in the unity government, Amirudin said Pakatan would be joined by its friends soon.
"Our friends from Barisan will come and be together with us. We can forget the differences of the past because the important thing now is to unite to save and restore the country damaged by the 'Sheraton move' and Perikatan Nasional," he said during his speech at the Shah Alam Independence Square here.
Amirudin also took jabs at Perikatan, saying that the past administration under the leadership of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was the "only government in history that has failed."
