KUALA LUMPUR: Provocative statements against coalition partners in the unity government are not in line with DAP's current stance and direction, says its secretary-general Anthony Loke.
"The top leadership in DAP made a policy decision to cooperate with other political coalitions in order to achieve political stability," he said in a statement on Saturday (June 24).
Loke was referring to former Damansara MP Tony Pua's speech at a recent DAP event where the latter took a swipe at Pakatan Harapan's allies within the unity government (Umno and Barisan Nasional) calling them "corrupt".
"Tony Pua no longer holds any position in DAP. He spoke in an individual capacity and does not represent the party leadership at all.
"The speech which is an attack on the main coalition partner in the unity government was uncalled for," he said.
Loke then reminded all DAP leaders and members to always maintain harmony in the relationship between parties and coalitions in the unity government for the sake of political stability which is much needed at a time when the country is facing various external challenges.
"Any provocative statement against coalition partners is not in line with the current stance and direction of the party.
“Anyone in DAP who cannot mind their mouth on such matters are not welcome to speak on the DAP stage," he said.
It was reported that Pua said Pakatan needed to prove to voters that it could do better than other parties and could form the government on its own.
"We need to prove to them that Pakatan is multiracial, a party that is clean and not corrupt compared to Malay-based nationalist parties like Umno and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, that we can do better than corrupt people like Barisan, Umno and Bersatu," he said.
