PETALING JAYA: Transport Minister Anthony Loke has explained that his absence at the Selangor Mega Madani Tour on Saturday (June 24) was due to health issues.

"I wasn’t feeling well, after the programme with the prime minister at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) in Nilai, I went back to rest.

"There was an invitation, but I was not feeling well, so I mandated Gobind Singh to attend the programme," he was quoted saying by Astro Awani.

The DAP secretary-general said this when asked about his non-attendance at the programme even though the Mega Madani Tour poster displayed the photo of the Seremban MP.

It was reported that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Loke would not be attending the Selangor Jelajah Mega Madani event, which was slated to launch the state election machinery and feature bigwigs from Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional.

This was confirmed by two of the Prime Minister's aides as well as an aide of the DAP secretary-general.

It was also reported that Barisan chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would not be attending the event.

Selangor Umno liaison secretary Datuk Abdul Mutalif Abdul Rahim had said another event to launch the collaboration of the election machinery of Barisan and Pakatan would be held at a later date.

Selangor dissolved its state assembly on Friday (June 23), paving way for the state polls.
