Special car plate part of Sabah VIP protocol, says state secretary

KOTA KINABALU: A photo showing a government vehicle with the licence plate stating “Isteri YAB Perdana Menteri” (Prime Minister’s wife) has gone viral on social media.

Sabah state secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong said the special licence plate was a normal practice by the state for VIPs attending official functions.

These people include the PM, his wife, ministers and assistant ministers as well as their wives, he added.

“The Prime Minister’s wife did not request for such a licence plate,” he said in a statement on Sunday (June 25).

Safar said the photo was taken outside a hotel in the city recently.

He said such plates and vehicles were provided according to current visit schedules of these individuals and were not permanent.

The PM’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was in Kota Kinabalu for a function recently.
