Nilai cops nab man for outraging artiste's modesty

SEREMBAN: Police have arrested a male suspect for allegedly outraging the modesty of a 26-year-old artiste here.

Nilai district police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said the suspect has been remanded till June 28.

"The victim had lodged a report on June 25 alleging that she was resting in a VVIP room behind a stage at Dataran Nilai after a performance when the suspect walked up to her to ask permission for a selfie to which she agreed.

"However, after taking the selfie, the suspect allegedly pulled and pressed her hand and then kissed it," he said in a statement.

Supt Abdul Malik said this startled the victim and she began to scream.

The suspect tried to escape but was caught by the organisers and handed over to policemen on duty.

The case, he said, is being probed under Section 354 of the Penal Code.

Offenders can be jailed up to 10 years or fined or whipped or given any of the two punishments upon conviction.
