GEORGE TOWN: Penang Pakatan Harapan has set a target of winning between 30 and 32 seats out of the 40 seats available in the upcoming state election.
Its chairman Chow Kon Yeow said based on the results of past elections, he felt that this goal was within the reach of the unity government.
"If we perform like in the previous election, I think this time, winning 30 to 32 seats will be considered a satisfying result," he told a press conference at Komtar here.
In the 2008 and 2013 elections, the then Pakatan Rakyat captured 29 and 30 seats respectively to form the state government.
In 2018, Pakatan then combined with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia to win 37 seats, leaving Umno with two seats and PAS with one.
DAP was the most successful Pakatan coalition member then with 19 seats, followed by PKR with 14 and two each for Amanah and Bersatu.
Chow also confirmed that MCA and MIC had requested seats to contest in the elections, but the final decision would be left to the Pakatan central leadership.
"We, at the state level, are also waiting for the final decision. Just wait for the announcement," he said.
On the decision by Muda to contest on its own in the six state elections, Chow said Pakatan was ready to face candidates from any party.
"I think the decision by Muda should be managed by the central leadership," he said.
Earlier, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said that the party would go on its own to contest in all the six coming state elections.
