State polls: Penang CM to meet Governor on June 27

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow will meet Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak on Tuesday (June 27).

Chow said he will be meeting the head of state to seek consent to dissolve the state legislative assembly on June 28.

"I have received the appointment from the Governor's office and will be meeting him tomorrow at 8am," he told a press conference at Komtar here on Monday (June 26).

The state Pakatan Harapan chairman said a press conference will be held at about 2.30pm at Komtar to be attended by all state assemblymen.

On June 8, Chow had announced the likely date for dissolution of the assembly.

Six states – Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan – did not dissolve their state assemblies before the 15th General Election on Nov 19 last year.

The Election Commission had said the six states should hold the polls simultaneously, adding that doing so would cost RM450mil.

Parties and coalitions from both sides of the divide have agreed to hold the elections for all six states simultaneously.

Kelantan, Selangor and Kedah have officially announced the dissolution of their respective state assemblies on June 22, 23 and 28 respectively to pave the way for the elections.
