Woman driver killed, seven injured in Simpang Renggam accident


SIMPANG RENGGAM: A woman driver died on the spot after being involved in an accident near the Haji Noor sawmill at Jalan Simpang Renggam heading towards Ayer Hitam.

Renggam Fire station chief Mohd Nizar Mamun said they received an emergency call regarding the accident on Monday (June 26) at 7.32pm.

“The accident involved a car driven by the 46-year-old victim with another car,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Nizar said the victim was trapped in the car and was pronounced dead by the medical team at the site.

He said there were five other passengers travelling in the car when the incident took place - a 23-year-old man, a six-year-old boy, an eight-year-old boy, a 10-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy.

“All passengers suffered injuries,’’ he said, adding that two males aged 21 and 23 from the other car were injured in the incident.

Mohd Nizar said those injured were sent to Kluang Hospital for further treatment while the victim’s body was handed over to the police for further action.

The operation involving eight firemen from the Renggam Fire station ended at 8.39pm.
