Former MIC Youth chief Sivarraajh quits party

PETALING JAYA: Former MIC Youth chief Senator Datuk Sivarraajh Chandran has announced his resignation from the party effective Tuesday (June 27).

Sivarraajh said he will be relinquishing his post as Taman Bukit Kuchai Baru MIC division chief.

"With a heavy heart, it is better for me to leave MIC because I want to perform my responsibilities as a senator and an Indian community leader without any restrictions or 'censorship'.

"Unfortunately, there were a few incidents that happened during my service under the leadership of Tan Sri (MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran) that led to this sad decision" he said in a letter addressed to Vigneswaran on Tuesday (June 27).

Sivarraajh said he would focus on issues that are close to his heart.

"I am still the senator for Indians. I will focus on issues that involve education such as appeals for matriculation admission and intake cases as well as university admissions for the community," he told The Star.

Sivarraajh said the decision to leave was because there were certain individuals that painted him as a threat to the party.

"What is worse is that I was restricted via various methods from performing my duties to the people and country.

"If this continues, it will lead to a division among the party members. I don't want to be the cause of division in the party due to our differences in views and approaches," he said.

Sivarraajh has been a member of MIC for 20 years and held positions as the MIC youth secretary, vice-president, and was the party's GE14 candidate for Cameron Highlands.
